Islamophobic Remarks :
Indian politician Kapil Mishra is a member of the BJP, which is the country’s current far-right party in power. He was elected from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 2015 before switching to the saffron party.
Mishra is a well-known anti-Muslim speaker who gives talks in front of large crowds. He was instrumental in organizing Hindu radicals against those who were protesting the discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which grants Indian citizenship based on religion, during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in 2019 and the early months of 2020.
“Desh ke gandaaron ko, Goli maaro saalon ko,” which meant people who challenged the citizenship bill were traitors and should be shot dead, was the motto of a march Mishra organized in December 2019.
Shoot the “traitors” from JawaharLal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Aligarh Muslim University, demanded Mishra on December 19 at Jantar-Mantar.
Additionally, he encouraged numerous Hindutva organizations to take to the streets and attack anti-CAA protesters.
“Today, I also went out on the streets. You must succeed on the roads as well if you want to succeed in the legislature. On December 20, 2019, he posted on his Twitter account, “Today I am also on the road with thousands of Delhi youth.
Mishra gave the Delhi Police an ultimatum on February 23, 2020, while US President Donald Trump was in India, requesting that they forcibly remove the anti-CAA protesters from the demonstration sites in the eastern Delhi neighborhoods of Jaffrabad and Chandbagh.
“The DCP (Ved Prakash, DC North East Delhi) is standing in front of us, and on your behalf, I want to tell him that we are leaving the area peacefully until the US President (Donald Trump) is in India. If the roads are not cleared by then, we will have to take to the streets, and we won’t listen to you (police) after that.
Armed with swords, weapons, rods, chains, and stones by that evening, Hindu right-wing members marched through Muslim neighborhoods in Delhi. At least 53 people, predominantly Muslims, died as a result of the anti-Muslim pogrom that lasted until February 27 and injured another 400 people. The Delhi Police did not, however, bring any charges against him in spite of court orders.
Mishra stated: “I am proud of what I did on February 23, 2020, and if it happens like that again, I will do that again” in an interview with The Wire, expressing no regret for his actions.
According to a Newslaundry investigation, he is currently in charge of Hindu Ecosystem, a digital network that has more than 20,000 members and is actively striving to foster and propagate anti-communal sentiment. He also plays a key role in promoting Kreately, a news outlet with a strong anti-Islamic stance.
Mishra was charged with inciting racial unrest in the Khargone area of Madhya Pradesh in April 2022 after Muslim properties, places of worship, and businesses were damaged by Hindu extremist mobs.
