Islamophobic Remarks :
Leader of the Hindutva movement Vinod Sharma is a part of the Hindu hardline Sudarshan Vahini group.
Sharma participated in many pro-Citizenship (Amendment) Act demonstrations organized by BJP leader Kapil Mishra prior to the Delhi pogrom in February 2020.
He participated in the March 2020 demonstration at India Gate, led by right-wing activist and publicist Suresh Chavhanke, demanding an economic boycott of Muslims.
“We want to help all Hindu brothers who wish to work in the hairdressing, tire-fixing, or fruit-selling industries. Everyone is aware of the issue, and a remedy is being developed. If we were to advise you not to get your hair cut by ‘them’ (Muslims), we would have to provide alternatives. In a now-viral video taken at the India Gate protest, Sharma stated, “We need to have our own men if we want to remove ‘them’ from these businesses.”
Additionally, he appeared in multiple videos alongside Hindutva activist Ragini Tiwari.
Sharma was present at a rally in June 2021 in Uttam Nagar, New Delhi, where he heard anonymous individuals claim, in real time, that they had pushed out Muslim traders from the area.
Sharma gave a speech in August 2021 at a rally in New Delhi that BJP leader Ashwin Upadhyay had arranged for roughly 2,000 people as part of what he referred to as the “Bharat Jodo (Unite India) movement.” Its purported goal was to persuade the government to create a common civil code in order to abolish “colonial-era laws.”
Sharma delivered divisive and communal speeches. Along with many others, he held up signs encouraging violence against Muslims.
One leader declared, “Muslims will chant Ram-Ram when they are slaughtered.” “Jab mulle kaate jayenge, Ram-Ram chillayenge.”
Another leader declared, “We will say goodbye to Muslims by killing them.”
Sharma was detained by the Delhi Police, and his bail was rejected by a local court.
