Ananth Kumar Hegde

Islamophobic Remarks :

Ananth Kumar Hegde is a former Union Minister and a Hindu extreme politician headquartered in Karnataka. He represents Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, in the legislature.

Hegde is an experienced hateful person who has the audacity to claim that his people are proud of him when he makes such offensive claims. The politician has a troubled criminal past that includes numerous rioting and inciting violent incidents. He was charged with rioting, unlawful assembly, and inciting hostility in 1993 as a result of his participation in the riots in Bhatkal, Karnataka. Ten Muslims and nine Hindus were among the 19 people murdered in violence. During these riots, a lot of residential neighborhoods were attacked, which led to the formation of religious ghettos.

Since then, he hasn’t stopped spewing hate speech against Muslims. When he asserts that “terrorism will exist as long as there is Islam in the world,” one may roughly gauge the severity of his dreadful anti-Islamic worldview. Islam must be eradicated if we are to defeat terrorism.

“Write precisely this if there is a media opportunity. broadcast just this. Islam is a time bomb for global harmony. As long as Islam exists, there will be no international peace, he declared.

He gained notoriety in 2017 for allegedly attacking medical professionals at a hospital in Uttara Kannada over alleged negligence in the care of his mother. As a result, he was charged with property damage at a medical facility as well as violating the Indian Penal Code’s (IPC) Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

In the midst of the 2019 Covid outbreak, Hegde charged that Muslims were “spreading the virus to undermine the sovereignty of India.” His account was supposedly suspended as a result of his aggressive tweets.

He encourages people to impose their own laws and openly supports violence. In the Kodagu district of Karnataka, he declared in response to a demonstration held by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike, “There should be a fundamental transformation in our mentality. We must pay close attention to what is going on around us. No matter the person’s caste or religion, no one should ever touch a Hindu female.

Hegde, a then-Union Minister, stated at a gathering at Koppal, Karnataka, “We are here to change the constitution” and remove the word “secular.” On another occasion, he clarified his position by stating, “We (the Bharatiya Janata Party) are not attempting to overthrow anyone or even to reign. Our aim is obvious. The saffron flag, which is both the RSS’s banner and a symbol of Hindutva, must be fluttering in front of us. The saffron flag should be respected by everyone.

Mahatma Gandhi was not even mentioned by Hedge, who said that the liberation movement he spearheaded was a “drama” that was “staged with the consent and support of the British.” He further questioned how “such people” came to be known in India as “Mahatma,” a title associated with reverence.

He is a caste chauvinist who regards ‘Jaati’ (caste) as “the identification of one’s blood.” His ingrained misogyny has also repeatedly come to the surface. He once referred to a congressman as the “one who ran behind a Muslim lady.” In another incident, he compared the debate over women entering Kerala’s Sabarimala shrine to rape.
