Islamophobic Remarks :
Leader of the Hindu nationalist movement Ankur Sharma is from the state of Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu district. He is an engineer, a politician, a lawyer, and a social activist. He graduated from Delhi University’s School of Law and Pune University’s School of Engineering.
Sharma established Ikkjutt Jammu in 2020, a political party that supports the creation of a distinct Jammu state from the districts of the Jammu Division and is in line with RSS ideology. It seeks to put an end to the “Jihadi war,” “Muslim separatism,” and the treatment of Kashmiris as second-class citizens in the area.
Sharma is an activist who advocates for Hindutva groups in the area and is radical and racist. He is well-known for spreading “conspiracy theories” on purported Muslim initiatives to alter the district of Jammu’s demographics. He was also an early supporter of Zameen Jihad, which the Hindu right-wing environment later exploited to persecute Muslims.
“A multi-pronged strategy that includes a well-funded campaign of land purchase, fraudulent allotments of the forest and state land through the Roshni Act, settlement of Illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi Muslims, induced Muslim Migration from Kashmir, and fraudulent census operations is causing the demographic change in Jammu,” stated Sharma.
Sharma advocates for shooting people in Kashmir for killing cows in the open and opposes Muslim colonies in Jammu.
In his blog, he states, “These 15 to 25% radicals are hell-bent upon destroying Hindu Civilization as their literature clearly exhorts that India is an unfinished Chapter of Islamic History.” History teaches us that the so-called Moderate Majority is meaningless. The Germans were moderates for the most part. The agenda was driven by the Nazis, who murdered 60 million people. The majority made no difference.
Sharma was one of the leaders of the right-wing Hindu group Ekta Manch in February 2018, which ran a large-scale campaign in support of those charged with raping and killing an eight-year-old Muslim nomad girl in Kathua. Sharma even oversaw Sanji Ram’s legal defense, one of the principal accused.
During a Hindu Ekta Manch rally in April 2018, he made a demand on people to refrain from buying or selling land to Muslims.
“You must also consider your options, and you must first resolve that you will not sell them your land. Second, anything that helps the Muslim Gujjars and Bakerwals (as a community)—whether it is trading, buying milk from them, or selling them fodder—all of those things, he stated.
