Babu Bajrangi

Islamophobic Remarks :

An Indian Hindu nationalist group called the Bajrang Dal had a Gujarat branch led by Babubhai Patel, also known by the pseudonym Babu Bajrangi. He played a key role in the violence that occurred in Gujarat in 2002.

His fame stems from his admission, made during a sting operation, that he had knowingly taken part in the murder of men, women, and children in the Ahmedabad area of Naroda Patiya, which had seen the worst riots in February 2002, which claimed 97 lives.

“We didn’t spare a single Muslim shop, we set everything on fire … we hacked, burned, set on fire … we believe in setting them on fire because these bastards don’t want to be cremated, they’re afraid of it … I have just one last wish … let me be sentenced to death … I don’t care if I’m hanged … just give me two days before my hanging and I will go and have a field day in Juhapura where seven or eight lakhs [seven or eight hundred thousand] of these people stay … I will finish them off … let a few more of them die … at least 25,000 to 50,000 should die,” he told a reporter.

After striking Kausar Banu, a pregnant Muslim lady, with a sword, Bajrangi claimed in a sting operation that he had removed her fetus from her body and burned it. The court convicted Bajrangi of the ruthless murder of Kausar Banu while rejecting his own admission that he had removed her fetus.

In addition, he said that Narendra Modi was a hero for whom he was willing to die, that Modi approved of the violence, and that Modi obstructed the justice system in order to protect himself.

A special court sentenced him to life in jail for his involvement in organizing the atrocity at Naroda Patiya. Nevertheless, the concept of justice was tainted in March 2019 when the Indian Supreme Court granted him bail on medical grounds.
