Islamophobic Remarks :
The far-right Hindu militant group known as Hindu Rakshak Dal, with its headquarters in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, is led by Bhupendra Tomar alias Pinky Chaudhary. His group is active throughout Delhi’s National Capital Region and in western Uttar Pradesh, where it has supported the government’s Bharatiya Janata Party.
Pinky Chaudhry is notoriously famous for hate campaigns and inflammatory speeches against Muslims and has also been arrested more than once.
A group of masked men carrying lathis and stones stormed the campus of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi) in January 2020 and beat up students and faculty members. Some people suffered serious injuries and were taken directly to the hospital. After the assault, Chaudhary posted a video to Twitter where he admitted responsibility for the mayhem.
“JNU is a hub of communists and we won’t tolerate this. They abuse our religion and our country. Their attitude towards our religion is anti-national. In the future, too, we will take the same action in other universities if someone tries to indulge in anti-national activities,” Chaudhary said in the video.
Chudhary was one of the main participants in a rally that was held in the national capital’s Jantar Mantar in August 2021. The sarcastically named Bharat Jodo Andolan [Unite India Movement] demonstration attracted media notice because of its vehement anti-Muslim rhetoric and invocations.
List of slogans raised at the event:
Jab mulle kate jayenge, Ram Ram chillayenge [Muslims will be cut in the name of Ram]
Suaron ki karo vidai, Hindu Hindu bhai bhai [Farewell to the pigs/Muslims, Hindus are brothers]
Hindustan mein rehna hoga, Ram Ram kehna hoga [If you want to stay in India, you must chant the name of Ram]
Band karo band karo, mullo ke vyapaar band karo [Shut down the businesses of Muslims].
At the demonstration, which drew hundreds of participants, the chants were shouted in front of media personnel and mute Delhi Police. Anmol Pritam, a reporter with the news site National Dastak, was pushed and yelled at by the crowd while being made to scream “Jai Shri Ram.” Anmol stood his position and refused to chant the phrase, saying he would only do so if he felt like it. He was referred to as a jihadi.
Unacceptable handbills were reportedly also handed out at the event, according to a report in The Hindu. This message may be roughly translated as “Hindus just protest while Muslims participate in love jihad, cow slaughter, and violence in the name of Allah. Just creating a stir won’t end Islam. You [Hindus] will lead the life of a hangman if you don’t wake up. Muslims carried out their mission in Bengal and Shaheen Bagh [in South Delhi, where women spearheaded the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rallies], but when and how will Hindus exact revenge? It is not feasible to expel them [Muslims] from India. They can only be destroyed when you lack fear. The tyrants must be expelled from the earth where Parasuram, Ram, and Krishna were born. Where in you are you at war? Laws are not as important as the crusade. Join me, and I’ll do all in my power to eradicate Islam from India and the rest of the world.
The far-right activist Ashwini Upadhyay and Pinky Chaudhary were among those named in numerous complaints against the participants and organizers for upsetting the peace and inciting religious intolerance. In order to punish Chaudhary for using anti-Muslim slurs and encouraging Hindu youth to attack Muslims, a Delhi court ordered him to 14 days of judicial prison. During a short period of time, bail was granted for each and every defendant.
“Islam and Christians should be wiped out from the earth,” said Chaudhary in a public gathering in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Although being detained, Chaudhary continues to attend anti-Muslim meetings like the Hindu Dharma Sansad, where in December 2021 he repeatedly called for the annihilation of Muslims.
