C. N. Ashwath Narayan

Islamophobic Remarks :

The politician from the southern state of Karnataka known for his anti-minority efforts is C. N. Ashwath Narayan. From 20 August 2019 to 26 July 2021, he was Karnataka’s 8th Deputy Chief Minister.

Narayan has actively contributed to the region’s demonization of Muslims. He supports the hateful and anti-Muslim propagandists in the state and secures their impunity.

He is a fierce supporter of anti-minority conspiracy theories like “love jihad” and Christians forcibly converting Hindus.

When he was Karnataka’s deputy chief minister in December 2020, he declared that his administration will pass laws to prevent “love jihad” and “cow slaughter.”

The People’s Union for Civil Liberties published a report in December 2021 detailing assaults on Christian minorities in the state over the course of the year. 39 acts of violence against Christians were reported in the state between January and November 2021, according to the report.

According to the report, despite the fact that these attacks appear to be geographically dispersed on the surface, they actually result from a far more sinister political project that seeks to dehumanize Christians and prevent them from exercising their fundamental right to religion, which is guaranteed by the constitution.

With the statement “There is no question of attacking churches or Christians,” Narayan merely refuted the facts. It may have been prepared by others to launch this kind of campaign and perception.

Meanwhile, under the guise that Hindus were quickly converted to Christianity and Islam through coercion or allurement, his government passed an anti-conversion law against the so-called coercive religious conversions.

He invoked the racially contentious binary of Savarkar vs Topi Sultan during a campaign rally for the upcoming elections in Karnataka. (Tipu Sultan was the Muslim ruler of Mysore who ruled in the 18th century and perished while defending his country against British colonizers. Savarkar created the Hindutva political philosophy, a form of Hindu nationalism. He was a prominent member of the Hindu Mahasabha, an extremist Hindu group. He made numerous mercy letters to the British when imprisoned during India’s liberation struggle, pleading for his life.

Speaking at a rally in Mandya, Karnataka, Narayan predicted that Siddaramiah, “who admires Tipu,” would win the Karnataka Assembly elections if the BJP lost. Do you prefer (V D) Savarkar or Tipu? Should we deliver this Tipu Sultan somewhere? What did Nanje Uri Gowda Gowda do? The same method should be used to dispatch him, he advised.
