Islamophobic Remarks :
Chikkamagaravalli A politician from India, Thimme Gowda Ravi served as the Chikmagalur Constituency’s four-time representative from 2004 to 2023. He is currently the BJP’s national general secretary.
Ravi is renowned for making offensive and anti-Muslim remarks. He belongs to the group of BJP politicians who are staunchly Hindu and who have led the Hindutva (Hindu nationalist) movement in coastal Karnataka.
He often spreads hate and has been charged several times for his anti-Muslim remarks.
Ravi was arrested for inciting hatred between various communities in violation of sections 153(A) and (B) of the IPC, 505 of the IPC, and subclauses 11 and 13 of clauses I and III of the Model Code. In April 2009, he made a “inflammatory” comment on Muslims at a campaign gathering in Sakleshpur, Hassan District, Karnataka.
It’s no secret that he enjoys using force. He made a public call for the execution of “traitors,” a phrase used by Hindu Nationalists to refer to Muslims and other people who do not support the divisive goal of Hindu supremacism. He wrote in a tweet, “Desh ke Gaddaro ko goli maro.”
Tipu Sultan, a significant figure in the anti-British struggle in India during the eighteenth century, was described by Ravi as a “brutal killer, wretched fanatic, & mass rapist.” He dared the authorities to invite him to the event being held in honor of Tipu Sultan.
He declared, “I will attend the event and yell anti-Tipu chants from the dais if the Government publishes my name on the invitation card. Let Siddaramaiah stop me if he has the courage to do so.
For fanning racial tensions at the state government’s Tipu Jayanti (birth anniversary) celebration, numerous lawsuits were filed against him.
Ravi threatened the protesting Muslims with violence akin to Gujarat (a reference to the 2002 anti-Muslim pogrom in Gujarat) if they persisted in their resistance during the 2019 demonstrations against the discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). People have mandated us for this reason, he remarked. The protesters (against the CAA) are against democracy and the constitution.
Look back at what happened after the Godhra (riot) if you (Muslims) have forgotten what occurs when the majority loses patience. The majority of people here are able to repeat it. Don’t try to push our limits,” he warned.
He compared eating patterns among Muslims to jihad. He urged Hindus to punish Muslims financially by claiming that Halal (items that Muslims may consume in accordance with Islamic Law) is an act of economic jihad. To avoid engaging in business with non-Muslims, it signifies that it is employed as a form of Jihad. It was forced upon you. What’s wrong with declaring that Halal meat shouldn’t be used when they believe it should? Halal products should only be bought from Muslims and no one else, according to a planned design.
He declares that India is a Hindu Rashtra (Hindu nation) and opposes the Indian constitution. “India is, was, and will be a Hindu Rashtra,” he asserts.
His fervent anti-Muslim bigotry was unable to help him retain his MLA seat in Chikmagalur. In the 2023 elections for the Karnataka assembly, he was defeated in his stronghold.
