Deepak Chaurasia

Islamophobic Remarks :

News anchor and journalist Deepak Chaurasia. He has spent over three decades of his career working for News Nation, Aaj Tak, ABP News, and India News. He is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication and a Chevening scholar.

When Chaurasia arrived on the program drunk, the News Nation fired him as the host of the primetime program “Desh Ki Bahas.” Chaurasia struggled to finish his statement when delivering a show about the passing of an army general, even referring to the late Chief of Defence Staff as a journalist. Throughout the program, Chaurasia displayed profound discomfort and was abruptly removed off the air.

He began working as a consultant editor and news anchor for Zee news in January 2023, where he still spreads hate and anti-Muslim propaganda.

One of India’s leading proponents of opportunistic journalism is Chaurasia. He serves as the spokesperson for the BJP’s Hindu nationalist government in power. He frequently spreads lies and hostility against Muslims. ‘desh ki bahas’ on News Nation, Chaurasia’s primetime program, was nothing more than a blatant display of Islamophobia and hate speech.

Several titles from his “desh ki bahas” show

‘Does all of India belong to Hindu ancestors’?

‘They will provoke in the name of Islam’!

‘How the Hindu population is reducing in India’!

‘Is earnings on ‘Halal’ ( food permissible for Muslims in Islam) a threat to national security’?

‘When will the action be taken against the traitors’?

‘How did the ‘Muslim League camp’ ( Muslim league lead the struggle to form Pakistan) come back on the Citizenship Amendment Act’?

‘Who is afraid of the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and Durga puja( Hindu Festival)’?

‘Strict Law on Love jihad, the need of the hour’!

(Love jihad is an anti-Muslim conspiracy theory)

‘Terror via love jihad’!

‘How long will the (H) daughters bear the terror of love jihad’?

‘Is it time to stop madrassas( Institutes of Islamic learning), and jihadi training in the name of religion’!

‘Jihadi factory(referring to madarsa) ka poora sach’!

The names of his programs make it clear that Chaurasia bases his prime-time program on the hardline Hindu nationalism, Islamophobia, and anti-Muslim propaganda wave. He invites extreme Hindus who openly vilify Muslims and actively advocate for bloodshed to appear on his programmes.

On his broadcasts, panelists have argued that the Quran should be banned because it is a “school of terrorism.” He has willingly tolerated insulting remarks like calling Dalits and Muslims “traitors.”

After a brief sabbatical following the scandal surrounding his inebriated anchoring, he has returned to Zee News, where he hosts the prime-time program “Taal Thok Ke.”

Several names of his “taal thok kay” show

‘Pakistan relies on Allah, the army and America!’

‘Documentary (referring to the BBC documentary on Modi) or a toolkit to defame?’

“Hindus will divide only then they(opposition parties) will get votes?”

A Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) court in Gurugram has charged Chaurasia with distributing false information regarding a 2013 case. On February 4, 2023, the court issued a warrant for his arrest. The court has issued a warrant twice in more than three months, including this one. On October 28, the first non-bailable warrant was issued.

The case involves a FIR based on a complaint submitted by a child’s relative on December 15, 2013, according to a news article. Three news organizations, News24, India News, and News Nation, were accused of showing “morphed” videos. Eight people were charged in 2020 and 2021 for airing “edited,” “obscene” videos of a 10-year-old child and her family and connecting the videos to the sexual assault case against self-styled godman Asaram Bapu. They include former News24 managing editor Ajit Anjum, Aaj Tak anchor Chitra Tripathi, and former News Nation anchor Deepak Chaurasia. Charges-related arguments are being heard.

He frequently spreads anti-Muslim and anti-communal sentiment on social media. His Twitter page is primarily loaded with hate speech and anti-Muslim propaganda. Among his favorite subjects are fictitious conspiracy theories like “love jihad” and “conversion jihad.”
