Islamophobic Remarks :
Hindu extremist Puneeth Karehalli hails from the southern state of Karnataka. He has participated in anti-Muslim vigilantism and other actions all around the state, frequently using violent methods.
He urges Hindus to band together in opposition to the alleged “threat” that Muslims pose and spreads the anti-Muslim propaganda known as “Love Jihad.” He has demanded that the state government close the Madrassas, which are traditional Islamic educational institutions, or he will do it himself.
He frequently refers to Muslims as “terrorists” and “jihadists” and ominously urges all Indians to convert to Hinduism. He has participated in a number of initiatives calling for the state to outlaw the consumption of halal meat (meat produced through the Islamic method of animal sacrifice).
Along with well-known hate-mongers and supporters of genocide like Pramod Muthalik and Mohan Gowda, he had taken part in campaigns packed with prejudice against the hijab and other issues concerning Muslims and other minorities.
After a five-day manhunt in Rajasthan, Karehalli was apprehended by the Sathanur (Karnataka) Police on suspicion of murdering Muslim cattle trader Idris Pasha.
On April 1, 2023, Kerehalli and others viciously beat 35-year-old Pasha, a resident of Guttalu near Sathanur (Karnataka), who was found dead.
His hidden relationship with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) senior leadership gives him the boldness to relentlessly promote disinformation and hatred.
He has been shown alongside BJP members Tejasvi Surya and Kapil Mishra.
