Ramji Tiwari

Islamophobic Remarks :

Currently holding the position of General Secretary is Ramji Tiwari of the Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad, a Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh-based organization headed by the well-known Hindu extremist Parvin Togadia. The group actively spreads false information about Muslims both domestically in India and abroad.

Tiwari has become well-known for his propagation of baseless conspiracy theories, hate speech directed towards Muslim minorities, and Hindu supremacist beliefs. His notoriety started to emerge around 2020, coinciding with the spread of the hateful conspiracy theory known as “love jihad,” which holds that Muslim males seduce Hindu girls into Islam by means of romantic connections.

In an effort to demonize and alienate Muslims in the area, Tiwari and his allies staged a fictitious “love jihad” case in August 2020 that included a young Muslim man named Ashif, also known as Nafiz. Tiwari, who claimed that Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, had turned into a center for “love jihad,” was a major proponent of this case.

Tiwari started an online petition drive in Kanpur in February 2021 to voice opposition to mosques using loudspeakers to announce the Islamic call to prayer. The campaign’s goal was to get 100,000 signatures in order to submit it to the Indian president.

A request for a Muslim prayer space in the state legislature building was fiercely opposed in September 2021 by Tiwari and the local branch of the Hindu militant group Bajrang Dal. They claimed that the opening of the prayer room could result in India turning into a “Islamic state.”

“After investing thousands of crores to build Afghanistan, multiple nations saw it taken over by the Islamic State, which imposed Sharia law,” Tiwari stated. The Muslim lawmaker who had asked for the prayer area was then defamed by him, who accused him of “communal politics” and “making unconstitutional demands.”

Tiwari asked local Hindu merchants and citizens to cut financial links with Muslims during a public rally in August 2023. In addition, he made menacing statements and urged Muslims to flee India for Bangladesh and Pakistan. He stigmatized the religious and cultural significance of Indian Muslims during his September 2023 speech to a Hindu supremacist gathering. He also urged his followers to raise the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, which Hindu extremists are trying to use the legal system to claim as a Hindu temple.

He hinted that Muslims pose a threat to Hindus when he declared, “If Hindus remain in danger then I warn that this country will not remain,” in a speech given in May 2023. During a speech in September 2023, Tiwari spread false facts and accused Muslims of being responsible for the violent division of India and Pakistan in 1947. Then he promised to establish a Hindu Rashtra (Hindu nation) in India.

Tiwari has a reputation for inciting panic on social media by using phrases like “Hindu khatre me hai” (Hindus are in danger). His social media posts reveal that he frequently attends public demonstrations, frequently with well-known bigots and anti-Muslim extremists. The yelling of anti-Muslim chants and the exhibition of lethal weapons are common features of these gatherings, which instill fear and intimidation in the minds of Muslim communities.
