Vishnu Gupta

Islamophobic Remarks :

Hindu militant leader Vishnu Gupta is from New Delhi and was once a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), an extremist Hindu group. He is the leader of the Hindu Sena, a group that advocates for the establishment of the Hindu Rashtra (Hindu nation).

Gupta, a history teacher, is well-known for his aggressive and divisive anti-Muslim campaigns. As stated in his Twitter bio, “Join us against radical Islam & Protect Sanatan Dharma!”

Gupta has been detained numerous times for distributing false information, taking part in acts of violence, planning attacks on people, and damaging property.

Because Vishnu had falsely reported that beef was being served at the Kerala House restaurant in New Delhi, the Delhi Police apprehended him in 2015.

Five members of the Vishu-led Hindu Sena were detained by the Delhi Police for damaging Asaduddin Owaisi, a Muslim member of parliament, at his official residence on Ashoka Road in New Delhi.

He offered the Hindu militants detained for attempting to kill Owaisi free legal representation.

His group organizes initiatives to rename the streets in New Delhi that are now named after notable Muslims.

At Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, his organization paid tribute to Queen Victoria on the occasion of her 118th death anniversary in 2019, thanking her for releasing India from Islamic rule. Similar to this, the Hindu sena honored Donald Trump on his 70th birthday and hailed him as the “messiah against Islamic terror” and “savior of humanity.”

Additionally, Vishnu requested that the burqa—a veil worn by Muslim women—be banned in India in a letter to the Indian Home Minister. Another time, he brazenly threatened the women protesting in Shaheen Bagh, New Delhi, against the unfair Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) by calling them “Shaheen Bagh Jihadis” and threatening to clear the roads (the protest site) by any means necessary if they didn’t comply. Later, under pressure from the police, he abandoned the idea.

He filed a petition with the Supreme Court in an effort to intervene and contest the PIL, which calls for criminal prosecution of speakers at the Dharm Sansad (Hindu religious parliament) in Haridwar who made overt calls for the annihilation of Muslims. Instead, he demanded action against Muslims in his plea. The apex court, however, dismissed the petition.

He petitioned the supreme court in early 2023 to prohibit the broadcast of a BBC documentary on Narendra Modi that revealed the latter’s complicity in the Gujarat Muslim carnage of 2002. His plea was denied by the Supreme Court, which described it as “completely misconceived.”
