Yogi Devnath

Islamophobic Remarks :

The chief priest of the Ekal Dham temple in Kutch, Gujarat, is Yogi Devnath. He identifies himself as the Gujarat state in command of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, an organization of hardline Hindus led by Yogi Adityanath. He is widely referred to as the “Yogi of Gujarat” on social media and is thought to be very close to Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Adityanath.

During the Gujarat assembly elections in 2007, 2012, 2017, and 2022, he unsuccessfully sought a BJP ticket from Kutch.

Devnath, who appears to be a Hindu monk, often spews hate speech against Muslims.

On Twitter, he has more than a million followers. He initially amassed this sizable following by pretending to be Mitali Shah, a woman. He changed his name to Yogi Devnath when his following grew significantly, then entered the Hindu nationalist movement to foment hatred and misinformation.

He never gets weary of writing eulogies for well-known instigators of hate and genocide like Kalicharan Maharaj, Sadhvi Prachi, and alleged terrorist Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, etc.

His favorites include the lie about “love jihad” and the claim that Muslims are working with foreign powers to convert Hindus to Islam. The transformation of India into a Hindu Rashtra (Hindu nation) is Devnath’s most treasured dream.

He routinely uses derogatory terms for the Muslim community and has no problem spreading misinformation. The investigative study “Yogi Devnath- A Man Who Runs a Hate Factory on Twitter” by the Forensic Research and Analytics Centre reveals his vile and poisonous mindset. He consistently spreads false information and is a persistent liar. The article claims that Devnath wrongly accused Akhilesh Yadav of signing a petition for Kasab’s mercy. He also posted an altered image of a mosque and asked the Maharashtra government when it will be destroyed. Similar to this, Yogi Devnath praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on Twitter and made a false claim that this had occurred after 32 years. Additionally, he incorrectly asserted that Aaftab Alam, a grand alliance candidate from the CPI-ML, is one of the defendants in the 2013 Patna bomb attack case.

He frequently uses derogatory terminology in his tweets, such as Kejruddin to refer to Arvind Kejriwal and Pappu Khan to allude to Rahul Gandhi, to make fun of the leaders’ ostensibly tolerant attitudes toward Muslims.

He participated in boycott movements against Shahrukh Khan’s Bollywood film Pathaan on the grounds that it offended Hindus’ religious sensibilities. However, the movie broke all box office records.

Due to his relationships in the highest levels of government, he has up until now been riding the wave of anti-Muslim misinformation and bigotry with perfect impunity. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, pays him a visit while the latter is in Gujarat, and Narendra Modi gives him birthday greetings.
