OVERVIEW:
The Shoebat foundation was founded by ex-Muslim Walid Shoebat, a self-proclaimed ex-terrorist who used to be part of the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The foundation attempts to give lectures to law enforcement officials about the dangers of Islam from the lived experiences of Shoebat himself.
HISTORY:
In 2011, CNN did an expose revealing that Shoebat makes nearly $500,000 a year to give lectures across the United States. They also revealed that his background story (i.e. that he was a terrorist) is largely unsubstantiated and that there is no record he was ever arrested for his activities or that he had been part of the PLO. He is now largely considered to have been discredited, but is still utilized by many Christian and far-right organizations.
