Swami Aseemanand

Islamophobic Remarks :

The self-confessed monk Naba Kumar Sarkar, also known as Swami Aseemanand, is a Hindu nationalist who participated in numerous terror incidents in India. Aseemanand, a Gujarati resident and native Bengali, had been an RSS activist for his entire life. Aseemanand served as a major organizer of the RSS affiliate Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in the tribal region of Gujarat, where he was once referred to as the “hero of Dangs” by the mouthpiece of the RSS, Organiser. Aseemanand is also connected to Abhinav Bharat, an extreme Hindutva splinter group.

The Hindu claims that Aseemanand is credited with converting a large number of indigenous people where he worked. He also founded the wildly popular Shabari Dhan Ashram.

He acknowledged his participation in multiple acts of saffron terror in 2010, including the attacks on the Mecca Masjid, Ajmer Sharif, the 2006 Malegaon explosives, and the 2007 Samjhauta Express bombs. Hundreds of Muslims were killed by these bombs overall.

According to a 2011 Tehelka investigation, Aseemanand admitted his involvement in the attacks before Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court, claiming that he was doing so voluntarily.

He claimed that the terror acts were endorsed by RSS head Mohan Bhagwat in a 2014 series of interviews with Caravan magazine. In several interviews with The Caravan from 2012 to 2014, he made insinuations about the role of the RSS in cases pertaining to “Hindu terror.” He mentioned a number of well-known RSS figures who were adamant about engaging in violent acts in the cause of Hindutva. He informed the magazine that, without mentioning the Sangh, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat had assured him that “it’s very important that it (violence) be done.”

Aseemanand was given bail in the Mecca Masjid case after the BJP took office in 2014, and a Jaipur court later found him not guilty in the Ajmer bombing case. He remains on trial in numerous other terror-related offenses.

“I am a violent one among the Sangh people. Have used violence to establish Hindutva — in Dangs, Andaman, Chattisgarh, and Nagaland. Please don’t write it.”

“A bomb must be responded to with a bomb.”

“Look, we should do some violence in the name of Hindus. There are people in the Sangh who feel so. Whatever happens, it will be between us alone. We will not link the Sangh with this. We won’t take any help from you for this. We are letting you know because you are the top officials, that we are planning to do this.”
