Islamophobic Remarks:
On March 9, 2026, U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN) posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Muslims don't belong in American society. Pluralism is a lie."
Ogles doubled down with dozens of follow-up posts, declaring:
- "America is a product of English Christian culture"
- "Multiculturalism is NOWHERE in the Constitution"
- "If muslims want to practice their law and exemplify Muhammadan culture, that is where they belong" (referring to Islamic countries)
- Suggested Muslims will "breed their way through our society"
Pattern of Anti-Muslim Extremism:
Ogles has a documented history of extreme anti-Muslim rhetoric including:
- Called for a complete ban on Islam in the United States, stating "America and Islam are incompatible"
- Pushed for deporting New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the city's first Muslim mayor
- Expressed support for banning immigration from Muslim-majority countries
- Stated in a speech that "America is and must always be a Christian nation"
Congressional Response:
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called Ogles a "malignant clown" and wrote: "Disgusting Islamophobes like you do not belong in Congress or in civilized society."
Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA) wrote: "This disgusting sh*t doesn't belong in American society. And Republicans who support it don't belong in Congress."
Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) introduced a resolution to censure Ogles for "spewing hatred and bigotry toward Muslim Americans."
Despite widespread condemnation, House GOP leadership remained silent on the matter, with Speaker Mike Johnson declining to comment on Ogles' posts.
Irony of District Representation:
Ogles represents Tennessee's 5th Congressional District, which includes Nashville — home to what is often described as the largest Kurdish diaspora in the United States, centered around an area widely known as "Little Kurdistan." His anti-Muslim comments were especially jarring for the tens of thousands of Muslim constituents in his Middle Tennessee district.
