David Horowitz
OVERVIEW
David Horowitz is the founder and CEO of the David Horowitz Freedom Center (DHFC), described by the SPLC as the "godfather of the modern anti-Muslim movement." DHFC operates FrontPage Magazine and houses Jihad Watch.
BACKGROUND
Horowitz co-founded DHFC in 1988 (originally as the Center for the Study of Popular Culture) with Peter Collier. His reported compensation was approximately $570,000 in 2016.
KEY ACTIVITIES
Under Horowitz's leadership, DHFC has organized "Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week" campus campaigns, hosted the annual Restoration Weekend conference, and published anti-Muslim content through FrontPage Magazine and Jihad Watch.
FUNDING
DHFC has received nearly $9 million from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, with additional funding from the John M. Olin Foundation and Scaife Foundations. Total revenue from 2017-2021 was approximately $36 million.
DESIGNATIONS
The SPLC designates DHFC as an anti-Muslim hate group and describes Horowitz as a "driving force of the anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant and anti-black movements."
