Lisa Piraneo
OVERVIEW
Lisa Piraneo served as Director of Government Relations for ACT for America from 2009 to 2016, functioning as the organization's primary lobbyist on Capitol Hill. She was a registered federal lobbyist who pushed ACT's legislative agenda directly to members of Congress.
BACKGROUND
Piraneo built her career as a congressional staffer before joining ACT:
- Staffer for Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC)
- Staffer for Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL)
- Staffer for Rep. Robert Walker (R-PA)
KEY ACTIVITIES
At ACT, Piraneo lobbied on refugee resettlement restrictions, Trump's border wall, and Muslim Brotherhood designation legislation. After leaving ACT in 2017, she continued lobbying via her consulting firm Camvia.
GOVERNMENT POSITIONS
Piraneo later moved into government roles: she joined the US State Department as Senior Adviser to the US Mission to the United Nations in April 2020, then became Senior Professional Staff Member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in March 2023. She is married to John Barsa, who served as special assistant to DHS Secretary John Kelly and later as acting USAID Administrator.
